Venice Lace: The Evolution of Tradition

In collaboration with the Municipality and Kallinikeio Municipal Museum of Athienou, the appios® undertook the design and the supervise of the exhibition “Venice Lace: The Evolution of Tradition” that showcases the evolution of a traditional embroidery technique used in Athienou, Cyprus.

As part of the exhibition, the appios® team was also assigned to design the exhibition’s catalogue.

In order to make the most out of the limited budget of this temporary exhibition, the studio was inspired by the concept of the exhibits to create laser cut-out banners made from paper.

Publication

A specially designed font is used that on closer inspection graphically illustrates the lace technique. The publication includes selected specimens of lace from the exhibition, made by the hands of the nineteen embroideresses that took part.
