The Gold Collection

The A. G. Leventis Coin Collection was formed in Paris by Anastasios G. Leventis from the 1950s to 1976 and numbers 605 gold coins and commemorative medals.

The appios® team was tasked with creating the identity and design for the permanent exhibition ‘The Gold Collection’. The exhibit is situated in the A. G. Leventis Gallery, the identity of which the studio also was in charge of.

The permanent display brings together video, exhibits and the use of magnifying lenses to immerse the visitors into the world of coin collecting. The team chose a gold, reflecting hue for the head letters around the room and curated an animation of falling coins projected in the space.

The exterior wall of the room is painted in a pigmented gold colour and the name of the room aims to blend in using the same hues.
The coins are displayed behind a glass enclosure so the studio created a diagram that shows how to use the magnifying lenses to view the coins in more detail.

The projected animation adds a blue hue of colour to the otherwise whitewashed room and invites visitors from the adjoining room to the collection.

Publication

appios® team collaborated closely with the curators of the publication & collection, Lefki Michaelidou and Eleni Zapiti, as well as with Loukia Loizou Hadjigavriel, Editorial advisor and Director of Leventis Gallery.

The structure of the book is based on the two main categories comprising the Collection. The first two sections are dedicated to the ancient and Byzantine coins, and the following ones include the medieval, modern and contemporary coins and medals; these sections are listed in alphabetical order, according to their geographical provenance or theme. The publication is completed with the bibliography, the index and with numbered plates including photographs of all of the coins in their actual size.
